Playing Classes

Our playing classes offer a platform for our students to perform in front of their peers, learning to overcome stage fright and build confidence while showcasing their repertoire.

Besides playing their own pieces, students will also be participating in various activities such as:

  • Performing a duet with another student

  • Mini sight-reading contests

  • Music history quizzes

  • Giving and receiving feedback

All students enrolled in our playing classes are required to perform at Two Clef Music's annual recital.

The importance of performance

Learning a musical instrument in a private setting is indeed conducive for tutelage and focus on rapidly improving and polishing technique.

To be a musician, however, is to be a performer, which means playing to an audience.

Most private students do not have the privilege to experience performing in front of an audience, or even playing as part of a group.

By joining our playing classes, there are 3 important life skills our students learn:

  1. Motivation - Students are self-motivated to practise, especially when they have to perform in front of their peers.

  2. Taking criticism - Feedback from their peers can sting, but our teachers are there to soften the blow, and teach them how to improve.

  3. Focus under pressure - Performing can be stressful, but repetition builds familiarity, and with enough familiarity, students learn to be calm and tune out the noise.
